Peruvian developer buys Packard Plant

Both the Detroit News and Marketplace (via WDET on Dec. 27) have reported that the uber-derelict Packard Motors plant near Hamtramck in Detroit has been bought by a Spanish guy from Peru. I hope he makes it into something community based, like the Brewery near East LA — super cool mixed use residential, commercial, artisan-space + lofts, micro-agricultural site.

Or maybe Packard could become like The Plant Chicago — a closed loop eco-production system in an old meat packing plant on the southwest side of Chicago, using beer, fish, lettuces, and Kombucha:

Please Mr. Peruvian investor, help us to heal! And btw, thanks very much for taking the risk and buying this great old building that so many of our Detroit grandfathers worked in. Thanks man. Welcome to the D (April 2014).
